My Creative Writing Blog Journey

When compiling my top creative writing blog articles of 2019, I thought over how much my life has changed over the past 12 months. I went from working as a primary school teacher to working in digital marketing and starting my own freelance SEO copywriter business.

I also went from someone who wrote a creative writing blog for something to do to writing blogs that are read by hundreds of people. I also went from someone who was a lone blogger, getting little feedback about my pieces, to someone who gets regular emails from those who have read my creative writing blog.

The fantastic, positive feedback I have received from young, beginner, and experienced writers about how my creative writing blog articles have helped them with an aspect of their work is humbling. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to comment over the last few months. You have all helped me shape and refine the SG Fiction Creative Writing Blog into one of the top resources in the UK.

Thanks also has to go to those ladies who volunteered for the Type Cast Young Writers’ Blog. You were all so incredibly eager and volunteered to complete my questionnaire so honestly. Your answers helped many young and first-time writers around the world who faced the same issues you do. Thank you all so much for your contributions to my creative writing blog in 2019. I hope to run the Type Cast Young Writers’ Blog in 2020 so, if you’re a young writer between 16 and 25, please email me to enquire about appearing in the next series.

Over the past months, my creative writing blog has exploded, and I wanted to share a countdown of my 12 top creative writing blog articles of 2019. Please read them over this festive period and share this blog around with others who may enjoy the read.

12. How To Market Your Kindle eBook

This creative writing blog was dedicated to those who were looking to launch a Kindle eBook in 2019. Search Engine Optimised blogs are what I write daily, and I have decided to approach my own author blog in the same fashion.

As I work with clients in business who ask me to write blogs that market their products and services to companies in various industries, I wanted to look at how I could apply that to my novels. In February 2020, I will publish and launch my second novel, Anna’s Awakening and hope to use similar strategies that businesses use for their own products when they are launched to market.

Check out this creative writing blog if you are marketing a Kindle eBook in 2020.

11. Guide To Selling A Kindle eBook in 2020

This creative writing blog was written as a look at launching a Kindle eBook in 2020. Working as an SEO copywriter and blogger in Belfast, I have decided to approach my SG Fiction book launches as a business as well as a passion.

Through working with business clients, who ask me to write blogs that rank well on Google, I wanted to apply the same approach to my own pieces. This blog looked at how I am looking to approach the launch of Anna’s Awakening in February 2020 as a company would approach the launch of a product or service to a market.

Read this creative writing blog if you are launching a Kindle eBook in 2020.

10. What’s More Important? Me Or My Book

Looking at multiple posts in the online writing community, so many of the writers there complain about how little they feel they get done when they set aside the time to write. This feeling of ‘time wasted’ or ‘not achieving’ got me to thinking about which is more important, the author or their novel?

This creative writing blog looks at how authors can sometimes feel caught up in the moment of writing a novel. All writers need to remember that the book is the product, and you are the source of the words that fill it. Authors need to take stock of which is more important and live by it more often.

Read this creative writing blog to learn my thoughts on the topic.

9. Type Cast 1: Peighton Weber

This young lady really impressed me when she became my first Type Cast Young Writer to appear in the creative writing blog. Peighton and I followed each other on Instagram, and she was the first person I thought of when came up with the Type Cast idea.

Please read this first Type Cast blog and learn about Peighton Weber and her work.

8. Type Cast 5: Ania Whiteley

My fifth Type Cast Young Writers’ Blog was written about young author, Ania Whiteley. Again, Ania and I follow one another on Instagram, and I wanted to share her story and information about her upcoming novel.

Many enquiries I had about Type Cast wanted to know if the writers had to be published. I wanted to show that not every author needs to be published to receive recognition of their work as a writer.

Read this creative writing blog to learn about Ania and her work.

7. 5 Messages From 5 Authors

As a UK fiction author, I have been inspired by so many authors from my teenage years until now. Since releasing Inside Iris on paperback and Kindle eBook, I wanted to share some of the authors, or messages from authors, that I felt inspired me.

This creative writing blog shares some of the writers who I loved reading and the inspirational messages they share. Check out this blog article to see who I chose and why.

6. Writing On The Move

As a published fiction author, I wanted to share some ideas about how fellow UK fiction authors could write while commuting. The use of our environments, no matter how busy, can be used to inspire us and put us under pressure to write when out of our comfort zones.

This creative writing blog was used to share some creative writing advice and tips for those on their morning commute. If you’re a regular commuter, check it out today.

5. How Belfast Shaped Me As An Author

As someone whose childhood was born in the height of The Troubles and moved through the era of peace and the Good Friday Agreement, I wanted to share how I felt my hometown of Belfast shaped me as a fiction author.

Belfast is a town that has been home to many famous authors, including Nobel Prize Winners for Literature and I wanted to shine a positive light on Belfast rather than the negativity it was bathed in throughout its past.

I am a fiction author from a new Belfast. Read this creative writing blog to see how I feel Belfast shaped me as an author.

4. How To Write Fiction Quicker

As I was composing a list of new creative writing blogs for my WordPress website, some of the main areas I saw people ask about were the ‘How To..’ silver-bullet style writing blogs.

I wanted to add my own thoughts to this style of blog and take a look at techniques a fiction author could use to write their novel or Kindle eBook quicker.

If you struggle to write quickly, check out and share this creative writing blog.

3. How To Write Effective Dialogue

Writing effective, organic dialogue is something that many fiction authors ask about on forums and asked me via email when it came to gathering ideas for my creative writing blog.

In this article, I looked to share some creative writing advice and tips about how to write effective dialogue for your upcoming fiction novel or Kindle eBook in 2020.

Read and share this article with someone who could use the tips included.

2. Type Cast 3: Kathryn

Yet another of my Type Cast Young Writers’ blogs was that of Kathryn. I approached this young lady on Instagram and asked her if she would like to be part of my blog series. Once she kindly agreed, she filled in my questionnaire and, yet again, I loved learning about Kathryn and her work.

There is no doubt that the success of my Type Cast Creative Writing blog would not have been possible without young ladies like Kathryn agreeing to take part and share their stories. Thanks, Kathryn!

Please read this creative writing blog and learn about Kathryn and her work.

1. Type Cast 2: Jordan Smith

One of the young authors who contacted me via Twitter was Jordan Smyth. Jordan is hands-down one of the most delightful fellow writers I have met online and was so gracious in her interactions with me.

I sincerely loved learning about Jordan and her faith-inspired work. Her approach to writing was one that made me think about my own practice as a fiction author and how to approach the Type Cast Young Writers’ blog.

Being the number one read blog on my this year is an achievement, Jordan. Thank you so much for taking part! Please share this on your blog and link the article to share it once more.

Read Jordan’s Type Cast article and learn about her and the work she writes.
